Official Statement of Status of Eligibility

To begin employment in a Florida public school, you must first obtain an Official Statement of Status of Eligibility.  There are three main ways to establish eligibility:

  1. Complete a Florida state approved teacher training program (or a state approved teacher training program from another state).
  2. Hold at least a bachelor's degree and complete the Specialization Requirements, the minimum required semester hours and specific credits for a subject in which Florida offers a certification.
  3. Hold at least a bachelor’s degree and pass the Florida subject area exam.

You must also have a 2.5 grade point average in the "initial certification" subject, and an official transcript from each institution attended is required.

Fill out and submit the application and appropriate fee for your Official Statement of Status of Eligibility (CG-10 Application form).  The application is available online at through the Florida Department of Education's website.  For subject content and specialization requirements, click here. Click on a subject area to see what the requirements are for obtaining your Official Statement of Status of Eligibility in that particular subject, and then click on "Apply Now" to complete the application.

If you are currently a teacher in another state you may want to review the information regarding reciprocity rules for out-of state teachers before you complete the application.

Contact all of the institutions you have attended and request sealed official transcripts to be sent to your address.  Do not open them when you receive them.  You will need to send a sealed transcript to the Bureau of Education Certification for review.  You may be able to request that your college or university send one official transcript to the Bureau of Educator Certification.    You will also need to send transcripts to the school district(s) you are interested in at a later date.  The institution normally has a transcript form online for your convenience.  You can download a printable generic transcript request form here.  There is usually a small fee for each official transcript requested.

If you earned your degree outside of the United States, you will need to follow the instructions for Applicants with Foreign Academic Training.  You will need to submit copies of your credentials to the school districts you are interested in, so you may want to request additional copies of the credential evaluation report.

Once your application has been reviewed by the Florida Department of Education Bureau of Educator Certification, you will be issued an Official Statement of Status of Eligibility that will list the requirements for a Temporary Certificate and the requirements for a Professional Certificate.  If the Statement confirms that you have met all the specialization requirements, you can be considered for employment by a school district.
