COVER LETTER HINTS

The cover letter is as important as your resume. It explains your interest in the position, and also highlights your strong points. Stress how your education and experience can be utilized by an employer.

Organize Your Cover Letter

Section 1-Introduction

  • Introduce yourself in terms of your skills and qualifications.
  • Indicate the position you are seeking.
  • Mention the source of information, i.e., friend, newspaper ad.

Section 2-Sell Yourself

  • Summarize your abilities and educational preparation.
  • Tie in your interests and talents to employer's needs.
  • Mention special personal qualities.

 Section 3-Closing

  • Ask for a response.
  • Repeat your interest in the position.
  • Ask if further information is needed.
  • Close your letter appropriately, i.e., Sincerely, Very truly yours.

The cover letter shows the promise of what you can do, and the resume should provide the evidence.
