Opening Questions

• When and why did you decide to pursue a career in teaching?

• In three words - who are you?

• What is your philosophy of education?

• Who was your favorite teacher and why?

General Questions

• What is the role of the parent in the child’s education?

• How actively involved should parents be? Should they assist with their child’s homework?

• What would be an ideal teaching assignment for you and why?

• What seems to be the toughest part of teaching today?

• Name the titles of the last three books you have read.

• Do you want to be a friend to your students?

Classroom Management

• You have heard the phrase "good discipline" - what does that mean to you?

• How would you handle student defiance?

• What are some types of behavior management techniques that you would use?

• What rules would you establish for your classroom?

• Would you like laughter in your classroom?

Teaching Strategies

• Which is better for you, self-contained or team teaching?

• How would you individualize learning?

• How would you implement inquiry?

• What is the role of homework?

• What would be the components of a good lesson presentation?

Measuring Student Performance

• How would you evaluate student projects in your class?

• How would you communicate student progress to parents?

• Do you believe in retention in the elementary grades and who should make that decision?
